If we haven’t met yet, I’m Mary Ann Stewart, textile and fiber artist, slow fashion artisan, and the person behind fresh cercle
I’ve been stitching since I was five years old and began exploring the creation of plant-based dyes and expanding my skills as a plant-based dye artisan in 2015, incorporating them in my work and in small-batch projects on natural fibers and paper.
I started fresh cercle in 2020 because I wanted to help people be more aware of our impact on landfills and the environment. Since then, I’ve helped hundreds of people buy less, buy better, and love their clothes longer. Plus, I’ve met so many generous souls along the way as I’ve continued to hone my skills as an artist and craftswoman. I’m beyond grateful that every day I get the opportunity to serve others as I continue doing what I love.
At the same time, I was expanding my skill as an artisan and plant-based dyer, something I’d been exploring since 2015.
Now, I’m also providing mentorship in a private community (NOT hosted on Facebook…) Along with my mission to normalize garment mending and promote a community culture around reuse and repair so that we love our clothes (and things!) longer and keep them out of landfills, I’m excited to build a community of fiber artists who problem-solve and support other fiber artists. I can help them because I was them.
As I’m eager to teach people to love their clothes longer and create experiences that connect people to the natural world: workshops that get you outside foraging locally for plants to explore the magic of botanical print-making; practical visible and invisible mending; and, soon to come, destination creativity retreats, I invite you to join me!
